Take part in the inaugural Four Rivers bird photography competition! Submit your picture of a migratory bird at McKinley Woods for a chance to win a gift certificate to the Cornell Lab Bird Academy and new bird-feeding supplies from Wild Birds Unlimited of Joliet. Winners will be selected in two age categories: adult (18 and older) and youth (17 and younger).

Contest rules are as follows: 

  • Photo must be taken at McKinley — Woods Kerry Sheridan Grove (Four Rivers Environmental Education Center). 
  • Must be a migratory bird. (Ask a naturalist if you are unsure)
  • Participants should not interfere with wildlife in any way. This includes baiting or luring an animal to take a photograph.
  • Must be 18 or older or have the permission of a parent or guardian.
  • Only one submission per person. 
  • Only the first submission from an individual will be accepted. 
  • Photos must be taken during the contest period (May 1 – May 31).
  • Winner will be notified by June 7.

You will be redirected to a confirmation page upon a successful submission. If you did not get a confirmation page, check that all required fields (*) are filled out before trying to submit again. You also will get a confirmation via email upon successful submission.

I am aware it is illegal to feed wildlife in the preserves and doing so could result in a citation being issued by a Forest Preserve District police officer as well as removal from the contest. 2) Upon submission of a photograph for the challenge, the contestant grants both the FPDWC and The Nature Foundation of Will County non-exclusive, worldwide, irrevocable, royalty-free license rights to use, reproduce, distribute, and publish the submitted photograph on its website or in publications, brochures, and newsletters and for other marketing and promotional uses, as well as distribute it to the media. The FPDWC recognizes that the photographer owns the image and the copyright to the photograph. Upon submission of a photograph for contest entry, the contestant also grants the FPDWC the right to use the contestant's name in promotions and other publications.
