Rock Run Greenway Trail closed at Olympic Boulevard

The Rock Run Greenway Trail section at Olympic Boulevard is closed for a City of Joliet project. The trail section is expected to reopen in the fall.

Other construction work is taking place in the Houbolt Road corridor and path users are urged to use caution.

There could be construction vehicles, barricades and intermittent trail closures as the city's project takes place north of the Forest Preserve District's Lower Rock Run Preserve – I&M Canal Access.

In a press release dated April 8, the city said the roadwork will include an eight-week lane closure on Houbolt Road from north of Interstate 80 to north of Olympic Boulevard. Roadway, turn lane and traffic signals will be improved.

"Drivers should expect delays and are encouraged to consider alternate routes," the city states in its release. "Additional information will be released as construction phasing progresses. Full construction of the roadway, traffic signals, and turn lane improvements is anticipated to be completed by fall of 2024."

Also, a section of Rock Run Greenway Trail between Essington Road and Theodore Street is closed at this time for a Forest Preserve project.
