The Forest Preserve District of Will Countyís digital newsletter, The Citizen, launches next week, so now is the time to subscribe to the new online publication.
Anyone who wants to stay up to date on all of the Districtís interesting news and upcoming events and programs can subscribe to the newsletter by filling out a short form at ReconnectWithNature.org or by calling 815-727-8700.
The District is switching from a printed version of The Citizen to an all-digital format in an effort to reduce its environmental footprint and operate more efficiently. The move to digital will save the District thousands of dollars in printing and postage.
The digital version of The Citizen will be emailed weekly, in contrast to the printed newsletter, which was mailed to nearly 25,000 subscribers four times a year. In 2016, the newsletter was mailed three times as part of the transition to digital. Subscribers received their final printed edition of The Citizen in mid-August.
The newsletter was created in 1982 as a way to keep the citizens of Will County informed about the Districtís preservation efforts, recreational offerings, educational programs and volunteer opportunities as well as news about the Board of Commissioners. The Citizen also has chronicled the Districtís growth from around 3,000 acres in the 1980s to 22,000 acres today.
