The Forest Preserve District of Will Countyís interactive map,
which debuted in 2014 for desktop computers, is now compatible with mobile devices.
This new compatibility with smartphones and tablets allows preserve visitors to more easily plan a trip in advance or get real-time assistance for an in-progress jaunt. The updated interactive map,
includes simplified tools and a new design and layout. Driving directions are now integrated with Google maps for easier navigation, and users can click on individual trail segments to get instant mileage readings.
The online mapping system is a high-tech way to navigate the Districtís 22,000 acres and 127 miles of trails. In addition to providing online directions, the interactive map also notes the locations of trailheads, drinking water, picnic pavilions, latrines, dog parks, parking lots, kayak and canoe launches, and other points of interest. The interactive map also guides people to locations where camping, boating, fishing, horseback riding and other recreational activities are allowed.
Printable maps with notes, drawings and measurements can be created online and shared with friends via social media, emails or instant messages.
