Rock Run Greenway Trail section closed for improvement project

A section of the Rock Run Greenway Trail from Essington Road east to Theodore Street in Joliet is closed for an improvement project.

The work is expected to be completed by June 15, but weather and other factors could affect this timeline. Updates will be posted here as necessary.

The closed section is pavement that will be replaced with new asphalt.

Later, the sidewalk section of the trail that runs north from Paul V. Nichols Access along the east side of Essington Road will be closed so the sidwalk can be replaced with 10-foot-wide paved path to match the rest of the trail. There will also be pedestrian signal improvements at the intersection of Essington Road and the Paul V. Nichols Access drive.

The Rock Run Greenway Trail provides several connections to other regional trails, including the I&M State Canal Trail, the DuPage River Trail and the Joliet Junction Trail.
