Trail Location and Access

The Hickory Creek Bikeway consists of two segments within Hickory Creek Preserve, totaling 5.93 miles.

The western segment may be accessed from the following locations:

• Hickory Creek Preserve - Hickory Creek Barrens (Schoolhouse Road, New Lenox)
• Hickory Creek Preserve - Hickory Creek Junction (Route 30, Mokena)

The eastern segment may be accessed from Hickory Creek Preserve - LaPorte Road Access (LaPorte Road, Mokena).

Trail Experience and Activities

The western segment of the Hickory Creek Bikeway is a hilly, paved linear trail and travels 3.03 miles through forest.

The eastern segment of the trail is a hilly, paved linear trail and travels 2.9 miles through forest.

Both segments of the trail are ideal for the following activities:

• Biking
• Hiking/Running
• In-Line Skating
• Cross-Country Skiing
• Snowshoeing

Trail Connections

Old Plank Road Trail: The western segment of the Hickory Creek Bikeway provides a 0.65-mile paved trail connection to the 21-mile, linear paved Old Plank Road Trail to the south at Hickory Creek Preserve - Hickory Creek Junction. Street routes from Hickory Creek Barrens also connect to the Old Plank Road Trail.

Street routes, Mokena Park District trail connections, and the Old Plank Road Trail connect the eastern and western segments of the Hickory Creek Bikeway.

Programs and Events

The Hickory Creek Bikeway provides a portion of the route for the annual "Cruise the Creek" family bike ride and festival at Hickory Creek Preserve - Hickory Creek Barrens in October. View a video from the 2012 event on our YouTube Channel.
