2024 Take It Outside Challenge
Read the rules
I. Eligibility
A.) This challenge is open to all ages, but participants must join one of the Take It Outside Challenges on the Goosechase app, which requires a smartphone. Contestants under 18 years of age who place first, second or third at the conclusion of the contest must have a parent present when picking up their prize.
B.) Forest Preserve District of Will County (FPDWC) employees, Board members, and their immediate family members can participate but are not eligible to win any prizes. Immediate family includes only spouses, parents, and children. Forest Preserve volunteers are not eligible to win first, second or third place prizes, but are eligible to win random prizes which are selected by a random number generator.
C.) Inappropriate usernames are not allowed and could result in those participants being removed from the app.
D.) The FPDWC reserves the right to verify, in its sole judgment, winner eligibility.
E.) Participants should not interfere with wildlife in any way. This includes baiting or luring an animal to complete a mission. It is illegal to feed wildlife in the preserves and doing so could result in a citation being issued by a Forest Preserve District police officer as well as removal from the challenge.
F.) Rules are subject to change without notice but will be posted on this page.
II. The challenge
A.) Contestants must download the Take It Outside Challenge in the Goosechase app. Instructions can be found here.
B.) Approximately 10 missions will be added weekly during each of the four seasonal challenges and participants can complete as many as they would like. The more missions participants complete, the more points they earn.
C.) The Take It Outside Challenge runs through December 14, 2024.
D.) All submissions are reviewed by FPDWC staff and invalid submissions (for example, not adhering to the instructions on the mission) will be rejected.
E.) In the event it is determined by FPDWC staff that a participant is cheating, they will be disqualified from winning any prizes connected to that seasonal challenge.
III. Submission/use of photos
A.) Photo entries that fail to comply with the directions of a particular mission will be disqualified without notice. Participants are welcome to retry that mission for as long as it stays active on the app.
B.) Upon submission of a photograph for the challenge, the contestant grants both the FPDWC and The Nature Foundation of Will County non-exclusive, worldwide, irrevocable, royalty-free license rights to use, reproduce, distribute, and publish the submitted photograph on its website or in publications, brochures, and newsletters and for other marketing and promotional uses, as well as distribute it to the media. The FPDWC recognizes that the photographer owns the image and the copyright to the photograph. Upon submission of a photograph for contest entry, the contestant also grants the FPDWC the right to use the contestant's name, city and state of residence in promotions and other publications.
C.) In the event that ownership of any photograph submitted to the FPDWC is contested in any manner, the FPDWC reserves the right to disqualify the photograph and the participant's completion of that particular mission. Participants are welcome to retry that mission for as long as it stays active on the app.
IV. Prizes
A.) Each seasonal challenge (Take It Outside Challenge: Winter Workout, Take It Outside Challenge: Spring Fling, Take It Outside Challenge: Summer Soiree, Take It Outside Challenge: Fall Frolic) will have a first-place, second-place, and third-place winner.
B.) The first-place winner will receive an Amazon gift card ($500 value).
C.) The second-place winner will receive an Amazon gift card ($250 value).
D.) The third-place winner will receive an Amazon gift card ($150 value).
E.) In the event of a tie by participants living in separate households, prize amounts will be split evenly between them. Amounts will be based on where these participants fall on the leaderboard (first, second or third place).
F.) For the overall first-, second- and third-place prizes, only one participant per household may win during each seasonal challenge. Address verification is required and in the event multiple winners are from the same household, one prize will be awarded to the person having the highest points within that household. In the event of a tie between participants within the same household, one prize will be awarded as a "family prize" and then the next person or persons on the leaderboard will be selected.
G.) Participants are limited to one first-, second- or third-place prize for the entire year. For example, winning one of the top three cash prizes in the winter challenge means you can't win a top three prize in subsequent seasonal challenges. However, this does not disqualify a top three prize winner from winning a random prize in subsequent seasons.
H.) Household members of first-, second- or third-place prize winners may still win random prizes during the same season, and are also still eligible to win first-, second- or third-place in subsequent seasons.
I.) For each seasonal challenge, 10 participants who have completed at least one mission during that challenge will be randomly selected to receive a Take It Outside prize pack.
J.) Once all four seasonal challenges have concluded, 10 random winners will be selected to receive a $50 Mastercard gift card.
K.) Other prizes connected to specific missions will be awarded throughout the duration of the challenge.
L.) Any winners will be contacted via the Take It Outside Challenge in the Goosechase app as well as by the email address provided when signing up; winners will have 48 hours to respond to receive their prize(s). Failure to do so will forfeit the prize(s). Winners will be notified how and when they will receive their prize(s).
M.) Prizes are nontransferable, and no cash alternative is available.
