Event details

Seeing a forest or field that has been burned may be concerning at first. Will the trees survive? Are the animals going to be OK? Walk with a naturalist to learn about the adaptations these plants and animals have that help them withstand a controlled burn or wildfire.

Find even more inspiration by visiting “Smokey Bear: The Rudy Wendelin Collection.” Be sure to see all 19 pieces on display across participating nature centers from Jan. 17 to March 2.

Event requirements

Registration required by Thursday, Feb. 6: 815-722-9470.

REGISTER ONLINE

Please dress for the weather and use caution while walking outdoors as snow and ice may be present on the paths and in the parking lot.

The hike will be up to 2 miles over paved and natural surfaces across uneven terrain. Four Rivers is an accessible facility. Anyone who requires an auxiliary aid or service to participate in this program should mention their request when registering or submit a request online no later than 48 hours before the program.
