Joliet Junction Trail section to close in late December for Interstate 80 work

Graphic indicating a closure

A section of the Joliet Junction Trail is scheduled to be closed for several days starting in late in December due to an Interstate 80 improvement project being coordinated by the Illinois Department of Transportation.

The trail will be closed from McDonough Street in Joliet to Moen Avenue in Rockdale for several days starting Thursday, Dec. 26. Weather and other factors could affect the scheduled closures. Updates will be posted here as necessary.

Additional closures also may be required in the future as I-80 bridges over the trail are demolished and reconstructed. Work will take place on I-80 above the trail and on Forest Preserve property below the interstate.

The interstate project is expected to be completed by the fall or winter of 2026.
