A section of the Joliet Junction Trail is scheduled to be closed from Friday, Nov. 8, through Tuesday, Nov. 12, due to an Interstate 80 improvement project being coordinated by the Illniois Department of Transportation.

The trail will be closed from McDonough Street in Joliet to Moen Avenue in Rockdale. The same section of trail also is scheduled to be closed for 10 to 14 days starting Wednesday, Dec. 4.  

Additional closures also will be required in the future as I-80 bridges over the trail are demolished and reconstructed. Work will take place on I-80 above the trail and on Forest Preserve property below the interstate.

The interstate project is expected to be completed by the fall or winter of 2026. Weather and other factors could affect the scheduled closures. Updates will be posted here as necessary.
