For the second program in our backpacking series, it’s time to start training! Learn how to pack your backpack and train with all that weight on your back. Let’s get out on the I&M Canal State Trail for a 5-mile training hike on paved and limestone trails.
Enjoy one, two or all three parts of the Backpacking 101 series. Other programs are as follows:

Event requirements
Registration required by Friday, Sept. 6: 815-722-9470.
We will meet at McKinley Woods – Kerry Sheridan Grove parking lot to begin our backpacking training. It is recommended you bring your backpack and camping gear along to practice packing and carrying your bag. Bring water and snacks for the trail. Please dress for the weather and wear sturdy shoes.
Anyone who requires an auxiliary aid or service to participate in this program should mention their request when registering or submit a request online no later than 48 hours before the program.
