Hidden Lakes to close Oct. 18 in preparation for trout season

Hidden Lakes Trout Farm in Bolingbrook will be closed on Friday, Oct. 18, to prepare for the fall trout fishing season.

The site, which is part of the Forest Preserve District's Hidden Oaks Preserve, will remain closed until trout fishing season begins on Saturday, Oct. 19.

Closure signs will be posted and closure details will be updated here as needed.

The portion of the DuPage River Trail that runs through Hidden Lakes will remain open. And the Tackle Box bait shop will be opens its normal Friday hours, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. But fishing will not be allowed in the lakes on Oct. 18.

On Oct. 19, Hidden Lakes and the Tackle Box bait shop will open at 6 a.m. for the first day of trout fishing and a Trout Season Celebration program. Anglers who participate must have a fishing license and a state trout stamp and must follow all Illinois Department of Natural Resources and Forest Preserve regulations. The daily trout limit is five. The Tackle Box sells fishing licenses, trout stamps, bait, food, beverages, snacks and other supplies.

After Oct. 19, the Tackle Box will be open its regular hours through Oct. 31, and it will close for the season starting Friday, Nov. 1. Hidden Lakes will be open at 6 a.m. for the remainder of October, but the road leading down to the site will close on Nov. 1 for the winter season. 

Hidden Oaks Nature Center and the preserve area around the nature center, including the nature trail, are closed for remodeling and improvements projects and both are expected to reopen in the first quarter of 2025.
